Privacy policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

Short version: what you type into our tools is not our business, and the tool pages load nothing from Google. On articles and guides, Google Analytics and Google AdSense only load after you accept them in the cookie banner. This page explains each part.

Who runs this site

PacketNebula is operated by Stéphane Cardon, who is the data controller. For a privacy question, or to use one of the rights described below, write to peoplearegeek@gmail.com.

Tool inputs stay in your browser

Passwords you generate, tokens you decode, subnets you calculate: all of it is processed by JavaScript running on your machine and is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can check this in your browser's network inspector. No Google script, advertising or analytics, is loaded on any page under /tools/, whatever you chose in the banner, so a tool that says nothing leaves your browser means exactly that.

A few tools need a server, because a browser cannot open raw TLS connections or query arbitrary DNS records: DNS lookup, SSL checker, HTTP headers checker, WHOIS and RDAP lookup, IP geolocation. For those, the domain or IP you enter is sent to a service we run, used to perform the query and discarded. These requests are excluded from our web server logs, and we keep no query history.

On first visit to an article, guide or other content page, a banner asks you to accept or refuse analytics and advertising. Refusing is as easy as accepting. Until you accept, no Google script is loaded and Google sets no cookie. You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. If you refuse, we delete any Google Analytics cookies left over from earlier visits.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read: page views, approximate location, device, browser and how you found us. It never sees what you type into a tool. Google acts as our processor for this data.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We are applying to Google AdSense. No ads are served today. If the application is approved, ads will appear on articles and guides, never on tool pages. Google and its partners may then read and set cookies and process some data about your visit (IP address, approximate location, device, browser and pages viewed) and, where you consent, use it to personalize ads. Google explains its role on its partner sites page. Before ads go live we will use Google's own consent message for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, and update this page.

Server logs

Like any web server, ours records the IP address and the page requested for each visit. We keep these logs for about two weeks to run and secure the site, and we do not build profiles from them.

Local storage

Your browser may store a display preference such as light or dark mode. This stays on your device and you can clear it from your browser settings.

Affiliate links

Some pages may contain affiliate links, for example to Amazon. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These links are marked as sponsored, and they never decide what we write.

Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to and port your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings. To use any of these rights, write to peoplearegeek@gmail.com. You may also complain to your data protection authority; in France that is the CNIL.

Where data goes

This site is hosted by OVH (OVH SAS, France). If you accept analytics or advertising, Google may process data outside the European Union, including in the United States, under the safeguards it puts in place, such as standard contractual clauses.

Children

This site is meant for a professional, technical audience and is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

We update this page when our setup changes, and the date at the top tells you when.
